Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring

I don't know that it's possible to convey how excited I am about the new floors. It was definitely not exciting to have a house full of carpet. To be more precise, this was a house full of carpet used by the former owners for many years and not cleaned prior to my ownership. I won't dwell.  A house full of jaw-droppingly gorgeous hardwoods is not only super exciting; it's also a huge relief, and I absolutely love walking in and seeing these.  I've always had hardwoods, but none anywhere close to this pretty. I'm so glad the necessity to learn about wood floors led me to Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring.

Having always purchased houses with hardwoods, I've never needed to learn about them. When I decided to purchase this house, I started researching. Wow, I found out there was so much I didn't know.  For example, did you know that between the options of red or white oak, one is significantly harder and less prone to denting or scratching? Did you know that one is porous, and one is non-porous? Or, that one only lends itself to dark stain color? I could keep going. Besides information about the different species options, I knew nothing about the different cuts or grades. The more I read, the more I realized how much I had to learn. This was a big, important purchase, and I was determined to be well informed. Jessica Hickman is a member of the family who owns Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring. She and her family have been involved in the hardwood industry for generations. Jessica writes educational articles for the company's blog, which is how I found her. Her blog posts made learning about hardwoods easy and interesting. After soaking up all the information from their site, seeing photos of their flooring, and reading reviews of the company, I knew what flooring I wanted, and that I wanted it from Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring. Not only was I renovating a newly purchased ranch house, I was also transforming the formals area as part of The One Room Challenge™. When I learned that Jessica wanted to collaborate on my ORC project, I was thrilled.

She talked with me several times on the phone answering questions patiently. After final decisions were made, my flooring was sent from Pennsylvania to Dallas, and arrived in about five days.  The photo above, from my One Room Challenge™ project, shows their quality and color perfectly. I chose three inch, clear grade rift and quartered white oak. Opting not to use a stain, only water-based polyurethane was applied.  The floors are now installed, and still I am taken aback by their beauty every time I open the door.
